You could edit /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults
and then issue a dpkg-reconfigure of gdm3, which is my preferred method.

For gdm3http://current.workingdirectory.net/posts/2012/remove-users-from-gdm/comment_2_6f06fe0887feb41bb8dbb3d94c734040/rwp2012-07-22T21:00:16Z2012-07-21T02:29:31Z

Just fyi in gdm3 you can achieve the same by setting this in
the /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults file:

/apps/gdm/simple-greeter/disable_user_list true

I imagine that having the user list is useful for tablet touchpad systems. But in general I would not want to have it that way and certainly not for desktops. At least not if security is needed. And if not then an automatic login with kiosk mode is much more convenient.

Just edit the config filehttp://current.workingdirectory.net/posts/2012/remove-users-from-gdm/comment_2_2e7e2ade0bb3e24e215b4a83fddbc48c/Anonymous2012-07-22T21:00:16Z2012-07-22T10:12:55Z

Editing/etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults should be sufficient. No need to dpkg-reconfigure.

$ grep list /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults
/apps/gdm/simple-greeter/disable_user_list true

Is this with gdm3? I remember it being a pain with 2 and then 3 came out and I had to figure it out all over again.
